The first step in the construction of the National Science Foundation’s Leadership Class Computing Facility is to give the system a new home! Through the first 18 months, a new space has been prepared for the LCCF machines in conjunction with private sector partner Sabey Datacenters in Round Rock, Texas.

This new space provides the datacenter capacity for much of the LCCF’s next generation of systems. With an initial capability of 15MW – expandable to 20MW – and floor space designed for ultra-dense, liquid cooled infrastructure, the new datacenter will be the home for the Horizon system and future generations of LCCF machines.

While access to sufficient power is key, the real challenge of modern datacenters is supporting the high density of the current generations of GPU designs. The new LCCF datacenter is designed for server racks that can supply up to 250KW each! The picture below shows the installation of the underfloor liquid cooling hookups for each rack (installed in September 2025).

Commissioning of the datacenter concluded in February 2026 with full power tests from more than 30 liquid load banks that stress both the electrical power and liquid cooling capabilities of the new space.
