Installation of NSF LCCF Horizon Supercomputer is Underway

With the new datacenter’s interior buildout nearing completion, the first components of the Horizon supercomputer have been delivered and construction of Horizon has begun! The first deliveries have been of the new, all solid state storage system for Horizon (from VAST Storage), along with the core Infiniband networking switches and racks (from NVIDIA) and the initial set of management servers (from Dell). Deliveries began in January 2026, and the initial racks will move onto their final datacenter floor positions in March 2026. Cabling and installation are now underway!

The GPU servers will be arriving shortly, with the early operations period expected to start by June. A second phase of CPU-based compute servers will arrive later in 2026, with all phases of Horizon expected to be operational before the end of the year.
